Born in Carrara, he initially worked for the Government of Cerdeña. Whilst in Turin, he was employed by the marquis of Villadarias to establish himself in the court of Felipe V, where he would remain until his death. He directed the sculptural works of the Royal Palace of Madrid, creating a number of works, and, from the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, he carried out important work in promoting Italian and French style sculpture in Spain.
