This bronze free-standing image portrays the Founder of theUniversity of Navarre wearing the Chancellor"s gown and chain, all worked with great attention to detail, and shown bestowingthe title of Doctor Honoris Causa within the framework of thesolemn academic act he presides over. This is one of the bestexamples of the assimilation of realism in monumental sculptures, showing an evident concern to correctly portray the personageand his attitude. This work is a homage paid by theUniversity of Navarre to its founder, St Josemaría Escrivá deBalaguer (1902-1975), two years before he was canonised byPope John Paul II on 6th October 2002.
