Salazar, Dora

Salazar graduated in Fine Art from the University of the Basque Country, where she studied under another sculptor from Navarre’s Valley of La Burunda, Ángel Bados, and went on to earn a Doctorate in Sculpture. In 1986, she was awarded a Visual Arts Scholarship by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, in 1990, the Gure Artea First Prize for Sculpture, and five years later, both Strasbourg’s “L"Art Contemporain” International Salon Prize (France) and the Luxembourg Ministry of Youth Prize. Her most significant individual exhibitions include “Ciclos II” at Barcelona’s Galería Metronom (1988); “Intimidad preservada” in Bilbao’s Sala Recalde (1995); a number of exhibitions in Bilbao’s Galería Windsor Kulturgintza (1987, 1993 -retrospective-, 1998, 2005); Galería L´Homme de Bois (1995), Honfleur, France; “Soliloquios”, the Mixed Pavilion in the Pamplona Citadel (2003); “Alas-corazas”, a selection of her work from 1995 to 2005, at the Okendo Culture Centre in Gros (San Sebastián); and “Exponerse”, in Madrid’s Galería Raquel Ponce (2007). She has open-air sculptures on the promenade in Zarautz (Gipuzkoa), in San Vicente de Abando (Bilbao) and on the campus of the Public University of Navarre. Works by Salazar can be found in the collections belonging to the General Assemblies of Bizkaia, Pamplona City Council, Zarautz Town Council (Gipuzkoa), the Museums of Fine Arts of Alava and Navarre, Argentaria (Madrid), Rafael Tous (Barcelona), Fundación Sáenz de Gorbea (Bizkaia), Centre Hospitalier Privé Claude Galleen (Paris), the Koldo Mitxelena Library in San Sebastián, and Bilbao’s Galería Windsor.
