Cilveti Echeverría, Concha

This Navarra-born woman is a multi-disciplinary artist who has worked in the fields of dance, music, drawing, sculpture and modelling, whilst finally opting for the area of ceramics. Concha Cilveti, a graduate in Ceramics, has obtained a number of prizes throughout her career, including the 5th National Edition of the City of Alcorcón 1986, the International Contest of Artistic Ceramics Zarautz (Guipuzcoa) and the Pamplona Design Award in 1994. In Pamplona she runs the Zugarrondo ceramics workshop, working with her partners Patxi Aldunate and José Luis López. Concha Cilveti always works with porcelain at a temperature of 1280 degrees and with refractories. She finds much of her inspiration in the leafiness of the forests of Aralar, Irati and Urbasa. «As an idealist, the idea is to collect data and dreams. I"m inspired by my surroundings», sums up this artist, who likes to construct and deconstruct as a regular exercise. In her creations, she says that she favours the beauty of black and white, the sobriety of colours and texture. She is an expert in Basque ceramics and a master in the arts of the kiln. Her artistic work is consistently focussed on exploring the tremendous possibilities of ceramics, undoubtedly with the final intention of raising ceramics to the status of high art, instead of the low art category considered by some. She has exhibited her works in cities such as Pamplona, Vitoria, Barcelona, Gijón and Brussels. With particular mention of the exhibition presented in the Sala del Horno hall in the Citadel of Pamplona in 1997. In 2004 she exhibited in the Royal Palace of Olite within the «Cultur» scheme. Recently, in September 2009, she exhibited her work at the Caja Rioja-Gran Vía Cultural Centre, an exhibition of ceramic sculpture, under the title of Evocations. This artist has public sculptures erected in Pamplona, the Yamaguchi Park and Zarauz, in the San Luis Park, entitled "Apoyo en La", created in 1986.
